Making Better Use of the Space They Already Had

Making Better Use of the Space They Already Had

Not every renovation needs a bigger floor plan. Sometimes, it's about making better use of what's already there.

For this Villa Park home, we worked on two bathrooms and a hallway, giving each space its own purpose while keeping the overall design consistent.

Warm wood, light stone surfaces, and subtle textures bring everything together without making the rooms feel too similar.

Floating Oak Vanities, Quartz, and Beautifully Textured Tile

The guest bathroom features a 95¾-inch floating vanity made from rift-cut white oak, finished in a custom stain and topped with Vadara White Aurora quartz.

Wall-mounted Hansgrohe Metropol faucets keep the countertop clear, while backlit LED mirrors provide soft lighting.

In the second bathroom, a Toto Kiwami vessel sink sits on a floating oak vanity. Porcelanosa Boulder Grey pebble-textured flooring and Butan Bone porcelain bring a more tactile feel to the walk-in shower.

The materials are deliberately understated, allowing the wood grain and tile textures to stand out.

Two Bathrooms, One Thoughtful Design

Although both bathrooms share a similar palette, each has its own character.

The guest bathroom feels bright and calm, with a generous double vanity and a vertically stacked Porcelanosa mosaic around the bathtub.

The hall bathroom has a different feel, with a glass-enclosed walk-in shower, textured tile, and a recessed niche for everyday essentials.

Beyond the bathrooms, custom inset walnut cabinets were built beneath the hallway windows, adding valuable storage without taking away from the natural light.

It's a good example of how careful design can make existing spaces work harder without changing their footprint.
